LOOKING AT NATURE THROUGH WIDE LENS

Nisargasutra is the very basis of living and co-existence of all the living beings on this planet. This principle is true for the entire biosphere and applicable across every sphere. But time, increasing population and differing needs have played a major role to affect the perfectly balanced natural cycles, thus to face a delicate situation of imbalance within the existing ecosystems. It is an alarming situation that is threatening nature and thereby tilting the scales of natural harmony to endanger all the forms of life. And it needs to be studied with right and positive approach.
Nisargasutra.earth is a self funded voluntary organization with enthusiastic and experienced scientists, researchers, activists who have been actively involved in every related field for the last 18 months. They have collected immense useful data to understand the scenario of Tamhini Ghats, Bhimashankar, Raireshwar and by large Western Ghats.

Western Ghats is one of the oldest ecosystems in the world with an origin dating back over 150 million years. It is the largest wet zone in the world with over 120 rivers originating and all these west and south bound rivers are the lifeline of South India as they are the primary water source of cultivation and potable water. Over 40% of the Indian population solely depends on the water of these rivers.

The Western Ghats itself are wonderful as they are spread right from Gujarat to the southernmost tip of Kanyakumari and have a large number of dense and evergreen natural forest zones.

The core aim of Nisargasutra is to understand these enriched ecosystems of Western Ghats and our endeavours begin with a pilot project in Tamhini Ghats that is unique in the terms of diversity. Though many parts of the region are still unexplored, yet we have managed to map the topography and collect massive data of the soil, geology, entomology, mycology, flora & fauna, wildlife habitats, and various other concerned elements. Along with data collection and fundamental research, we also have participatory programs to involve the local populace.
We strongly believe that when any system faces a problem, the solution exists within the system and it requires us to locate the problem and explore the solutions. For us, ecosystems mean both ecological and economic systems which are a vital part of our life as only ecology (its preservation and restoration) is more important to reach viable and sustainable economic solutions.
This endeavour needs your participation either as a scientist, researcher, nature lover or in which way you can. We appeal you to be a part of Nisargasutra to make it a movement for the benefit of humankind.

The logo

It is a pictorial depiction of human-nature co-relationship. The picture has a person in an action mode and his persona with a helix is adorned by the vital natural elements like tree, water and the root capillaries that formulate our own existence and harmony with nature.
The earthly brown for soil in the form of the outer ring symbolizes the earth and power of the sun that energizes all the lifecycles on the globe. The shades of blue and green in the form of leaves and water waves represent the water and sky thus covering all the vital elements of life and to establish the complete universe.

Tamhini Bio-Diversity we have explored

Tamhinil Wildlife Sanctuary (TWLS) is a recently declared WLS located in a hilly place right on the crest line of northern Western Ghats near Mulshi dam of Maharashtra State. The area is blessed with diverse landscapes of hills, waterfalls, ardent valleys and lush evergreen forests. The habitat diversity in the sanctuary supports myriad life-forms of some interesting flora and fauna.Since it is a recently declared sanctuary it is indispensable to assess the existing biodiversity of the same to have the proper conservation strategies and forest management practices. Further the myriad life forms and landscape diversity attracts number of naturalists, nature enthusiasts, wildlife photographers, educational and research institutes, universities, tourist to enjoy and explore this area. In the right side you can see our progress bar of the data we have collected related to biodiversity. Please visit our website tamhini.earth

It is not my credentials as a Surface Coating Technologist, enabled me to undertake this effort, it was my passion. I am a student of nature and the science behind it. I grew up in cities nestled by the Western Ghats, this 150 million year old wonder(older than Himalayan mountain range) has raised thousands of species over the years against all odd. My goal is to gather the best minds in science and technology to study this ecosystem, and to create a resource that is freely accessible to everyone
